A lifelong adventurer, Matt searches from the depths of the Peruvian jungle to the winding shores of the Niobrara for that moment of perfect light. His instincts control the shutter as he freezes at just the right second to capture spectacular grace and beauty as near as his own backyard and as distant as the other side of the globe.
For months – and sometimes even years – Matt's photographs exist only in his mind. He lingers for hours in the pouring rain as lightning strikes all around him, waiting for the perfect bolt to light up his lens, or squats in the sweltering heat of a jungle filled with bloodthirsty mosquitoes to catch a definitive image. He is constantly driven to push his creative art to its next peak.
Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Matt's passion for photography began on an ordinary trip with friends to the mountains of Colorado during high school, and then reignited years later while traveling through Belgium on a business trip. Since then, he has been dedicated to the pursuit of capturing images that will inspire others.
Matt's photography appears in national shows, corporate offices, private collections and numerous publications. His photo of "Wintry Pivots" was one of 102 images (from more than 12,200 entries) selected for the juried Art of Photography Show, an international exhibition held in spring 2008 at the Lyceum Theatre Gallery in San Diego. He has spent the past year working on There Is No Place Like Nebraska, a hard-bound book of fine art photography scheduled for release this fall by the Nebraska Alumni Association, that will illustrate the University of Nebraska–Lincoln by season through its architecture, student life and athletics. In addition, Matt's images have been featured in the Nebraska Alumni Calendar for the past four years. Matt is a 2000 graduate of UNL with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry.
